The Kingdom of Heaven Sermon by the Sea -- Matthew 13:1–52 (Mark 4:1–34, Luke 8:4–18)

1The same day went Yeshua out of the house, and sat by the sea side [and] Mark 4:1began again to teach. Matthew13:2And great multitudes were gathered together unto Him, so that He went into a ship, and sat (in the sea -- Mark); and the whole multitude stood on the shore. 3aAnd He spake (Mark -- taught) many things unto them in parables, saying, Mark 4:3unto them in His doctrine;

The Sower, the Seed, and the Soils -- Matthew 13:3–9      (P-5)Mark 4:3“Harken: Matthew 13:3bBehold, a sower went forth to sow; 4aAnd when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, Luke 8:5 and it was trodden down,) Matthew 13:4b and the fowls came and devoured them up:

5“Some fell upon stony places (Luke -- a rock), where they had not much earth: and forthwith (Mark -- immediately) they sprung up.  Because they had no deepness of earth 6when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away Luke 8:6 because it lacked moisture.

Matthew 13:7“And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them, Mark 4:7and it yielded no fruit:

Matthew 13:8a“But other fell into good ground, Luke 8:8sprang up, Matthew 13:8band brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.

Mark 4:9“He that (Matthew -- Who) hath ears to hear, let him hear.”

The Development of the Kingdom    

The Growing Seed -- Mark 4:26–29           (P-6)

Mark 4:26And He said, “So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; 27And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. 28For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. 29But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.”

The Mustard Seed -- Mark 4:30–32           (P-7)

Mark 4:30And He said, “Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what comparison shall we compare it? 31aIt is like a grain of mustard seed, which Matthew 13:31a man took, and sowed.  Mark 4:31bWhen it is sown in the earth, [it] is less than all the seeds that be in the earth: 32aBut when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, Matthew 13:32and becometh a tree, Mark 4:32band shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge Matthew 13:32bin the branches Mark 4:32cand under the shadow of it.”

Matthew 13:33Another parable spake He unto them; “The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.”

The Value of the Kingdom

Hidden Treasure -- Matthew 13:44          (P-9)

Matthew 13:44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.”

The Pearl of Great Price -- Matthew 13:45       (P-10)

Matthew 13:45“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.”
